Silena Kuyumdzhieva
Hello, my name is Silena and let me tell you a bit about myself. I am an extremely ambitious, passionate and an outgoing individual always determined to get involved in new challenges and accept new opportunities. I’m currently in my final year at the University of Liverpool, studying Accounting and Finance, in hopes of achieving a first class degree. I love to get involved in different clubs like for examples I did synchronised swimming for 3 years, placing 5th at nationals, as well as earning gold and silver medals at different competitions. Currently, I am a member of my university cheerleading team, which has been an amazing, new experience allowing me to try something completely different and out of my comfort zone, as it is rather different from synchro as well as dance which I did for 10 years. I also have been trying to start up knitting during lockdown but it’s proven to be harder than I expected; so it’s still a work in progress. I’m also a huge believer in helping the community. I've been volunteering at my local nursing home and hospital for a total of 2 years during sixth form, which was an extremely rewarding experience. Why do I want to be a tutor? In my Chemistry Subject Champion role at sixth form, entailing teaching students the subject, I realised my passion for teaching and guiding others. As a student who experienced similar struggles during my exams and underwent tutoring, l’m able to significantly relate to young students, with regards to the pressures and stresses they experience. Moreover, as a synchronised swimmer for my local club, Hythe Aqua, I had responsibilities to teach the younger swimmers in preparation for national competitions and figure assessments. Despite, the difficulties when teaching younger pupils, due to lack of concentration and consistent interruptions, I developed a sense of patience when managing situations under pressure alongside commanding attention, in turn adapting my communication styles to the specific age groups. As someone who is able to relate to the experiences of balancing 12 subjects and has completing my GCSEs successful signified by achieving mostly A*s and As, I have the expertise to provide the necessary assistance and guidance. It is crucial for students to establish a close and trusting relationship with their tutors in order to feel entirely comfortable and fully engage with the session. I’d describe myself as a friendly, caring individual who is able to provide the support for every student to reach their full potential and achieve success in their studies.

Everything you need to know to help your child pass this essential exam

What are GCSEs?

GCSEs are qualifications that students in the UK achieve at the end of their compulsory education.

A GCSE grade is given to each subject and calculated on written exams, practical exams and coursework.

How important are GCSEs?

GCSEs are a universally recognised qualification in the UK.

Specific GCSE grades may be required when applying for further education. This includes applications for college, sixth form and university, or when applying for a job.

GCSEs can come with a lot of pressure and expectation but your child can achieve the grades that they need with lots of practice as well as guidance from a GCSE tutor.

At what age do you take GCSEs?

Students take their GCSE exams around age 16, in the last months of the academic year at school, although the syllabus is taught between the ages of 14-16 years.

There is now more weight than ever being placed on final exams (instead of coursework), so students must be well equipped to perform on the day.

Which GCSEs are compulsory?

The core subjects for GCSEs are maths, English and science.

Other GCSEs include languages (usually French, German or Spanish), humanities (such as history, geography or religious studies), art (music, art, media, drama) and technical (food technology, design and technology, computer science).

Can GCSEs be re-marked?

If your child is on the cusp of getting the grade that they hoped for or the result simply does not seem fair, the paper in question can be sent back to the exam board for appeal.

Many students appeal exam results when they are one or two marks away from the next grade up. The right study plan and a good understanding of the marking scheme for each exam can help avoid this situation.

If your child has achieved marks close to the grade line in their mock exams, it could be time to get them some help with a GCSE tutor.
